Description
The IGCP 521 2005 conference was held in Istanbul, Turkey. This conference was the first in a series of conferences for IGCP 521.
The inaugural meeting of IGCP Project 521 was held at Kadir Has University. The IGCP 521 2005 conference provided a forum for a global community of scientists (82 scientists from 18 countries; 71% from developing countries).
It explored connections between sea level change, coastal evolution, and human adaptation in a variety of settings. These settings ranged from tectonically active (Caucasian coast, Sea of Marmara) to stable (Manych Depression) areas as well as areas with moderate (north-western coast of the Black Sea) to sub-tropical (Israeli coast) climates.
Scientists from four continents were at the meeting with Turkey, Russia, and Ukraine having the most participants.
The abstract volume for the first meeting on the Black Sea-Mediterranean Corridor (BSMC) contains 82 extended abstracts (225 pages) written by 167 scientists from 19 countries.
